Writing
StorytellingAncient gods. Modern problems.
Alvin Svitzer writes contemporary mythic fiction that brings ancient archetypes into modern life. His work explores power, class, identity, belonging, and the myths people build around themselves.
He is the author of The Art of Killing Gods and creator of the Substack Mythic Matters.
The myths never left. They became nations, corporations, movements, technologies, and the narratives we use to explain ourselves to one another.
About the Author
Alvin Svitzer is a writer fascinated by mythology, modern life, and the stories people tell themselves in order to survive.
Born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, he later spent several years living in Amsterdam, where he developed an appreciation for how myths travel across cultures—how the same stories shift shape across borders and centuries.
A lifelong reader and student of storytelling, Alvin is drawn to the questions hidden beneath every good tale. What do people fear? And what are they willing to sacrifice for belief or belonging or power?
Both of those questions led to The Art of Killing Gods and Mythic Matters.
When he isn’t writing, he’s usually reading, wandering through a city, or asking questions that accidentally turn into stories.
